The Encounter

During a SUP trip around the bay of Puno on 28th July 2022, a group of friends landed on Titino Wiñay Balsero island. They met Jallahui’s family, shared SUP moments on the water and discovered the local’s natural ability to navigate floating boards.

Aug 2022 to Sep 2022
After the first encounter, Raùl Delgado, founding member of the organization, returned 3 times to visit the island, provided them with with a set of boards, paddles, leashes, fins. He also gave basics instructions to SUP practice and racing and set the goal for the local athletes to train on their own and get prepared for their first SUP racing event participation in October 2022 at the Club Regatas in Lima. The island was also equipped with gym equipment (bike, pull-up bar, weights, rolls, etc) for body strength and endurance.

Nely, Leo, Silver and Darwin accompanied by their father, Antonio and our coordinator from Puno, Rolando flew to Lima to participate in a SUP race event of the national SUP circuit in Lima where they all successfully competed and reached podium in their respective age category. Local press was invited and they appeared in magazines.
Competition Achievements:
Nely: 2nd Place in category Junior women, 6th Place overall in category Amateur.
Silver: 1st Place overal in category Amateur, 6th Place overall in Category Open.
Leo: 1st Place in category Amateur over 30, 2nd Place overall in category Amateur.
Darwin: 1st Place in category Junior men.
Creation of Non-profit Organization

First General assembly and statutes approval with the founding members. The organization was officially launched on that date.

Administrative paper works and official registration of the organization in Switzerland.
Planning For Events in 2024

The Comittee was created and actively worked to prepare the First Titikaka Lake crossing for 2024.
Fundraising
Jan 2024
A crowdfunding was launched online to collect funds for the Titikaka Lake crossing’s first edition. The target was achieved thanks to the support of relatives, colleagues and worldwide network donating for this project.

Apr 6, 2024
Silver and Rolando flew to Lima to participate in the Festival Suizo organized by Swiss embassy celebrating 140 years of bilateral relations between Switzerland and Peru. The theme of the event was nature, mountain, sustainable tourism. Our organization was invited by the embassy to host a booth at the event site.

Aug 24 to Aug 30, 2024
The first Titikaka lake crossing on SUP was held from 25th to 30th August. Silver and Nely our local paddlers from Uros accompanied by Seychelle USA and Rachel Switzerland, crossed the lake from Bolivia to Peru, covering almost 100km during 5 days of SUP. They achieved to be the first Stand-up paddlers covering this distance and itinerary on Lake Titicaca and were recognized by Puno Municipality for their efforts and achievement.
Event ArchiveSUP Introduction at a Local School in Uros

After completing the Titikaka Lake crossing, the team headed to a local school in the main channel of Uros islands where kids aged 11-15 years had been invited by their teacher to join and discover SUP. The event aimed to share the sport to more locals. A short technical course was presented to the kids and a small competition for girls and boys was held at the end of the practice.

The association's president Rachel was received by the Swiss ambassador in Lima to share the lake crossing story and projects of our organization.
Partnership with Conecta Hub Peru
Sep 2024
Following the Titikaka Lake Crossing event, our organization president met with Conecta Hub’s CEO José Ignacio Beteta and sealed a partnership to work together. Conecta hub collaborates and supports various social projects and non profit organizations in Peru. Our joint forces will aim to work on reaching our goals and mission and build a sustainable future for SUP around Titicaca Lake.

Venice Biennale of Architecture
May 9 to May 11, 2025
A team or architects was selected to represent Peru at the Biennale 2025 in Venice. Their project is inspired by the Uros reeds construction and the Uru, a boat reed construction that was used to cross the Pacific ocean. The organization’s project being held in a similar environment, we are working on having a booth with their project presentation at the exhibition in Venice.

Organize training sessions and set a regular training plan for the Uros committed athletes to progress and gain more SUP skills.
SUP School Regular Activities in Uros

Schedule and hold more SUP school events in the Uros community to grow the interest for this sport.

Our local committed Uros athlete to train and participate in more SUP events held nationally and internationally with the support from our partners.
Local SUP Events to Be Organized

Prepare and have a SUP event organized on Titicaca lake for locals, SUP amateurs from around the country and from abroad to compete in the natural reserve of the Titicaca lake.
Titikaka Lake Crossing 2nd Edition

Launch the second Titikaka lake crossing edition in 2027 and open it to public registration. Date will be announced.

Local Training Center Project

Our ultimate goal is to have a floating island dedicated to SUP training for locals and international athletes. The island would have a training center and will accommodate athletes, SUP lovers, training camps and other activities related to SUP.
SUP Equipment Development

We envision SUP as an environment friendly activity and inclusive means of leaving for the locals. In that direction, we aim to develop a SUP production in Puno area. While reducing the environmental impact of importing equipment will be replaced by new income opportunities we will forge the sport’s identity by implementing a local production around the lake.
Merchandising and Local Craft Support

Traditional Uros art-craft and design will be supported by our organization in various ways. We value the Uros heritage and will strive to align our activities and projects to promote their art-craft. Our merchandising products will reflect that unique heritage.
